Overlanding.capetown operates organised self-drive tag-a-long overland tours and convoy-supported travel experiences throughout Southern Africa.

Our trips are designed for travellers who want the freedom of self-drive adventure with the benefit of planned routes, convoy coordination, logistical support, and shared overlanding experiences.

Participants travel in their own vehicles or approved rental vehicles and remain responsible for their own driving decisions, vehicle operation, and travel arrangements throughout the expedition.

Overlanding.capetown does not operate as a passenger transport service.

Important Participation Information

​

By joining an Overlanding.capetown expedition, participants acknowledge and accept that:

• They are participating in a self-drive overlanding expedition.

• They remain fully responsible for their own driving decisions at all times.

• They are responsible for the roadworthiness and legal compliance of their vehicle.

• They are responsible for their own fuel, camping equipment, food, water, and personal supplies unless otherwise stated in writing.

• They are responsible for ensuring they hold valid licences, passports, visas, insurance, and border documentation where applicable.

• Travel conditions in remote areas may change without notice due to weather, road conditions, wildlife activity, border delays, or other unforeseen circumstances.

What Overlanding.capetown Provides

​

Depending on the expedition, Overlanding.capetown may provide:

• Route planning

• Expedition hosting

• Convoy coordination

• Campsite coordination

• Logistical support

• General overlanding assistance

• Shared communication and safety coordination

• Advice regarding routes, fuel stops, camps, and border procedures​

​

Overlanding.capetown does not provide:

• Professional wildlife interpretation services

• Passenger transport services

• Recovery guarantees

• Mechanical repair services

• Medical services

Vehicle Requirements

​

Participants are responsible for ensuring that their vehicle is suitable for the selected route and remains roadworthy throughout the expedition.

Certain routes may require:

• High ground clearance

• 4x4 capability

• Recovery points

• Suitable tyres

• Additional fuel range

• Camping equipment

• Water and food storage

Overlanding.capetown reserves the right to refuse participation if a vehicle is considered unsuitable or unsafe for the expedition route.

Self-Drive Participation

​

All participants drive at their own risk.

Participants remain individually responsible for:

• Their own vehicle operation

• Following local traffic laws

• Safe driving practices

• Vehicle recovery costs

• Mechanical repairs

• Tyre damage

• Fuel management

• Border compliance

• Personal conduct

Participation in convoy travel does not remove personal responsibility for driving decisions or vehicle safety.

Recovery & Breakdown Limitations

​

Remote overlanding routes may involve difficult terrain and long distances from assistance.

While Overlanding.capetown may assist where reasonably possible, participants acknowledge that:

• Recovery support may be delayed or unavailable

• Mechanical assistance may be limited

• Recovery costs may be significant

• External recovery services may need to be arranged at the participant’s expense

Overlanding.capetown cannot guarantee vehicle recovery, repairs, towing, or roadside assistance.

Border Crossings & International Travel

​

Participants are responsible for:

• Passport validity

• Visa requirements

• Vehicle documentation

• Cross-border permits

• Insurance requirements

• Customs compliance

• Any fines, penalties, or border-related costs

Border requirements may change without notice and remain the responsibility of each participant.

Medical & Emergency Responsibility

​

Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are medically fit to participate in the expedition.

Participants should carry:

• Any required medication

• Personal medical supplies

• Travel insurance where applicable

Overlanding.capetown is not liable for medical costs, evacuation costs, or emergency expenses incurred during the expedition.

Convoy Conduct & Safety

​

For the safety and enjoyment of all participants:

• Convoy communication instructions should be respected

• Campsites and natural areas should be treated respectfully

• Unsafe, reckless, or disruptive behaviour may result in removal from the expedition

• Participants must comply with local laws, park regulations, and border authority requirements

Overlanding.capetown reserves the right to adjust routes, schedules, campsites, or travel plans due to weather, safety concerns, mechanical issues, political conditions, or unforeseen circumstances.

Assumption of Risk

​

Overlanding and remote travel involve inherent risks, including but not limited to:

• Vehicle damage

• Mechanical failure

• Wildlife encounters

• Remote area travel

• Extreme weather

• Poor road conditions

• Recovery delays

• Personal injury

By participating, all travellers acknowledge and voluntarily accept these risks.

Participants join the expedition entirely at their own risk.

Liability Limitation

​

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Overlanding.capetown, its expedition leaders, coordinators, representatives, and partners shall not be held liable for:

• Vehicle damage

• Theft or loss of personal belongings

• Mechanical failure

• Delays

• Border complications

• Personal injury

• Illness

• Recovery costs

• Third-party actions

• Weather-related disruptions

• Cancellation costs outside of Overlanding.capetown’s direct control

Bookings, Payments & Cancellations

​

Booking deposits are non-refundable unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Cancellations made close to departure may remain fully payable due to campsite bookings, route logistics, and operational planning already committed.

Overlanding.capetown reserves the right to cancel or postpone expeditions due to:

• Unsafe conditions

• Insufficient participation

• Political instability

• Natural disasters

• Border restrictions

• Operational circumstances outside reasonable control

Where possible, alternative dates or credits may be offered.

Acceptance

​

By participating in any Overlanding.capetown expedition, participants confirm that they:

• Understand the nature of self-drive overlanding travel

• Accept the risks associated with remote travel

• Accept personal responsibility for their own vehicle and conduct

• Agree to these participation terms and conditions
